Optional medical examinations

The pre-reinstatement visits are optional and take place when the worker is on sick when a modification of the capacity for work is predictable.  An employer ( (except when the employee is sick off ) or an employee may also plans a spontaneous medical examination with the occupational physician.

Pre-reinstatement visit

When a worker is off work  and thinks a worklayout will be necessary, he can  book an appointment for a pre-reinstatement medical examination ( called in French “Visite médicale de pré reprise”)

This medical examination estimates the capacity or not of the employee to  take back its old employment, and if necessary, of the necessity of an adaptation of the working conditions.

The practitioner may ask for a pre-reinstatement medical examination to his patient, or the medical officer ( Social security).

Recently, according to the French labo code Article R. 4624-20 when a worker is sick off for at least 3 months, a pre-reinstatement visit must be schedule.

However, when a worker is sick off , the employer is not allowed to book an apppointement for a medical examination for his employee.

According to French labor code,  Article R 4624-21 , during this medical examination, the occupational physician may propose adaptations for the working environment, professional redeployment , trainings, retrainings so that the employer offers a job compatible with the state of health.

The pre-reinstatement visits facilitate return to work and encourage the retention of  workers in employment.
